In my extensive travels to Nigeria I have seen first-hand what an absolute disaster this country is. It’s been about a year since I was last there and things have gotten even worse during this time. Check out recent headlines:
- Why the Return of Polio is Such Bad News
- Hunger ‘deadlier than violence’ in Boko Haram-hit northeast Nigeria
- Amnesty slams Nigeria over crackdown on journalists
- Blackouts, violence, now recession: Nigeria’s troubles mount
Call me crazy, stupid, or whatever but I am going back with whomever wants to come with me. More on that in a minute.
If the maxim is true that “we learn more from our mistakes than our successes” and that it’s a lot less painful and less costly to learn from other’s mistakes then there are abundant opportunities to acquire some serious learning and education in Nigeria NOW! So, for Christmas this year I am providing one of the best gifts anyone can give or receive: education and experience.
Plus, as always, we will be giving back through soccer to the thousands of good people who are blameless in the current national struggle there but, I believe, not powerless. Working with these youth will provide significant opportunities to touch lives and simultaneously be touched. Can you say: “B-E-S-T holiday ever!” Yeah you can. 😉
You with me? If you are at least curious, learn more here and let’s go!
